James Arniel suspended for one game

James Arniel (#9) of HCB Südtirol Alperia, time 59:39 was involved in an incident deemed as Slashing (IIHF Rule 159). The video evidence was sent to the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga Committee (PSC), which determined the incident to be worthy of supplementary discipline - Category 1 - 'Careless'.

According to the Arbitrator and having considered the video evidence and ruling of the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga PSC, James Arniel (#9) of HCB Südtirol Alperia, will receive supplementary discipline under rule 159 – Slashing.

On October 11th in Bozen, an incident occurred involving James Arniel (#9) deemed as slashing. With approximately 21 seconds left in a game where Bozen lead 5-2, directly off a face-off, James Arniel slashed the opposing player, #40 Evan Trupp. It was taken into consideration, Bozen was short handed at the time and the presumable objective of James Arniel was to make puck contact. However, a player is always responsible for his stick and the action of his stick. The reason for supplementary discipline is as the puck was being dropped, James Arniel originally had his stick on the ice. The stick was brought off the ice and used in a direct motion at the area of Evan Trupp's hands. If the intent of James Arniel was to play the puck, hit the stick of Evan Trupp or to use it in a manner directed at the hands of Evan Trupp, the outcome is a slash that made direct contact to the hands. The slash was forceful and did cause an apparent injury.

Effective immediately, James Arniel (#9) of HCB Südtirol Alperia is suspended for 1 game and fined 250.00Euros.
