In the six Thursday games of the Alps Hockey League, the home teams prevailed in each case. While HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice defeated the league leader Pustertal, Red Bull Hockey Juniors prolonged their home series. EC Bregenzerwald turned around the derby against VEU Feldkirch and won after overtime.
Jesenice defeats league leader
After the strong comeback win on Tuesday (6:4 vs. EC-KAC II), HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice also wins against the leader of the Alps Hockey League. The Slovenians met HC Pustertal for the first time this season. The Wolves could always point in the last six games before that. After the 4:2 success Jesenice reduced the gap to the leader to 15 points, but played seven games less than HC Pustertal. For Jesenice it was already the third success in a row. The Slovenians had to accept only two defeats in the second phase of the basic round. For Pustertal it was already the fifth defeat in the Home & Away Round.
Red Bull Hockey Juniors prolong home series
The Red Bull Hockey Juniors prolonged their impressive home series. The young team from Salzburg won all ten home games this season and conceded only 16 goals in total. HC Gherdeina was also unable to end this streak. After falling behind early, Val Gardena took the lead in the first period, but then could not keep up the pace and efficiency of Salzburg. Salzburg finally prevailed 5:2 and conquered the third place in the standings.
Bregenzerwald turns around derby against Feldkirch
EC Bregenzerwald and VEU Feldkirch faced each other for the fourth time this season. After VEU won the season opener with a clear 8:1 victory, Bregenzerwald prevailed in each of the other three duels. Feldkirch, however, was very close to the three points in the fourth and for the time being last clash. Feldkirch already led 2:0 at the beginning of the third period, but Bregenzerwald fought their way into the overtime, in which Adam Kademir provided the decision. With the derby win, Bregenzerwald reduced the gap to Feldkirch to two points - they are also only two points behind the top four.
Buam shorten gap in the standings
After the victory over Red Bull Hockey Juniors, the Rittner Buam followed up with a win over EC Die Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel and thus further reduced the gap to the mid-table. The South Tyroleans, who are still in tenth place, are now only seven points trailing to the fourth place. For the Tyroleans, on the other hand, it was already the tenth defeat in a row. However, the victory had to be worked hard by the Rittner Buam. The Buam were ahead in each score, but Kitzbühel was able to catch up until 3:3. The Buam, however, had the longer breath in the final minutes and finally prevailed 5:3.
Strong final period brings Broncos win
The Steel Wings Linz gave the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan a tough fight over the first two periods. In the 30th minute, the Broncos managed to equalize 2:2. But then the Broncos were unstoppable. Dante Hannoun and Markus Gander each added a brace and finally prevailed 7:2.
Cortina remains unbeaten in 2021
The S.G. Cortina Hafro remains unbeaten in 2021. Cortina celebrated a 7:5 success. The home team was already leading 5:0 in this encounter when EC-KAC started a brilliant comeback. The Klagenfurt team cut the deficit to 5:6 with three minutes remaining, but Chad Pietroniro finally provided the deciding goal with an empty netter. Cortina was able to take the seventh place in the table with the fourth success in a row.
