Jesenice first leader of the season

On Saturday Jesenice played the new season's opening match and the Slovenians are right away the league's first leader thanks to a 7:1 home win against Cortina. While champion Asiago started with a shutout win, Rittner Buam suffered a tough 3:7 defeat in Lustenau. The game of Milano against VEU Feldkirch was postponed due to poor ice conditions.

The fans had to wait almost 27 minutes for the new season's first goal as Erik Svetina broke the spell. Afterwards everything went quickly with Tadej Cimzar, who had three goals and one assist this evening, extended the lead. In the third the hosts scored four more unanswered goals. With two minutes to go Luca Barnabo scored the consolation goal for Cortina.

Salzburg outshot their opponent 14:5 in the first period but were trailing 0:1 after 20 minutes as Davide Conci (6') opened the scoring for Asiago. In a fast-paced first the hosts had some good chances to tie the game but but failed because of netminder Frederic Cloutier or the post. The champions showed another face in the second and put more pressure on the Austrians. After the hosts missed a double chance for the equalizer, Federico Benetti doubled the score with a well-placed shot. In the third the Juniors still tried hard and never quiet but it was not enough. Asiago made the game safe after 52 minutes when Michele Marchetti rounded off the scoring.

Klagenfurt had the better start into the game with Nikolaus Kraus getting them on the scoreboard halfway through the first. Only two minutes later Zell's captain Franz Wilfan tied the game. The polar bears came out hard for the second and Daniel Nageler turned the game around. With Peter Leblanc and Luke Oakley two additional new arrivals scored for a 4:1 Zell am See lead. In the third the fans saw another six goals but the guests win was never in danger. While Wilfan got his hat trick, Tobias Dinhopel and Frederik Widen scored for Zell am See. Cirtek and once again Kraus found the back of the net for the home team.

The game in Dornbirn was a mere four minutes old when Simeon Schwinger lit the lamp for a first time. Soon later Kitzbühel forward Tuomas Kinnuen beat ECB goalie Thomas Stroj for the equalizer. Early in the second Maximilian Hohenegg restored the home team's lead from close range and it even became better for the hosts when Schwinger added his second of the night. Gert Karitnig pulled one back and with four minutes to go in the game Adam Havlik sent it to overtime. After a goalless extra session, Daniel Ban captured the bonus point for Bregenzerwald.

It was a match at eye elvel right from the beginning with Lustenau having the better chances. Ritten took the lead, though, when Andreas Lutz (17') opened the scoring while playing shorthanded. Only 16 seconds later Lustenau's new arrival Chris D'Alvise tied the game. The lions dominated the second period and scored six goals within 14 minutes with Marc-Andre Vallerand getting a hat trick. In the third they slowed down a bit and Ritten's Alex Frei pulled two goals back for a 7:3 final result. It was Ritten's highest defeat in AHL history.

The game was firmly in the hands of the Ljubljana. First powerplay of the meeting and first Green Dragons net: good triangulation and there was Saso Rajsar's net (4.). The only real opportunity for the Falcons was on the stick of Martin Castlunger and Diego Iori. In the second, Fassa was more enterprising but Ljubljana was better in attack zone. First Anej Kujavec (33.) and then Martin Cepon (39.) allowed to guest formation to mortgage the result. In the third time the tension rised with a match penalty for each side. The Ljubljana lengthened in double powerplay with Ales Music (51.) while the younger Marco Marzolini signed the only and last goal of the meeting for the Falcons (54.).

The first South Tyrolean derby was of the Broncos in a game much more fighting than the final result (1:4). Despite three penalties against Gherdeina, the home team endured well with the goal of Michael Sullmann. In the second half the game was very well played and full of rhythm. Jure Sotlar took advantage of a free corridor as he signed the tie (35.). In the third time the Gherdeina seeked the advantage but it was the Sterzing that unlocked the result thanks to the new striker Brandon McNally in powerplay. In the last two minutes of the third period the Broncos closed the match with two goals of Kyle Just one of wich in empty net.
