Feldkirch continues run of success in derby
Already on Tuesday, BEMER VEU Feldkirch made people sit up and take notice with their success over the Rittner Buam. Now the team, which was second to last until this matchday, followed up in the Vorarlberg derby against the next big favorite and celebrated their third win in a row. Fourth-placed EHC Lustenau, on the other hand, suffered their fourth defeat in a row and also lost their second derby of the season against Feldkirch. As already on Tuesday in Ritten, VEU presented itself efficiently and on the other side goalie Alex Caffi was not to be overcome. The safe backstop of Feldkirch parried 50 shots and celebrated a 3:0 shutout victory.
Jesenice wins top-clash
Leader HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice could close the old year with a sovereign victory against their first chaser. While the Slovenians could record their seventh success in a row, it was already the second defeat in a row for the Buam - after the slip-up against Feldkirch. Eric Pance, who already scored a brace in the first meeting with Ritten, opened the scoring in the first period. Jesenice did not relinquish the lead and eventually prevailed 5:2, this time Eetu Elo scored twice. With this win, the league leader starts the new year with a comfortable cushion on the still second-placed Rittner Buam.
Broncos celebrate overtime win over Linz
After two losses in a row, the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan recorded their first success after Christmas. However, the Steel Wings Linz, who still managed to beat HC Meran/o on Tuesday, gave Sterzing a tough fight in the direct duel of the two table neighbors. In the total sixth duel in the Alps Hockey League, the Upper Austrians remain without success against the Broncos. In the first period, the Linz team was able to take the lead. From the middle period onwards, however, Sterzing took the lead before the game went into overtime at 3:3. Tommy Gschnitzer finally decided the game.
Newcomer Meran/o ends the year with a commanding success
Still in the old year HC Meran/o could end its three-game losing streak. EC Stadtwerke Kitzbühel had to admit defeat also in the second season duel with the league newcomer. For the eagles lose ground after the fifth league in a row and are only razor-thinly before the penultimate place. Merano built a two-goal lead early in the first period and eventually prevailed 5-2.
Asiago conquers second place in the table
In only the second game of comeback coach Tom Barrasso, Migross Supermercati Asiago was able to conquer the second place in the table. While the Rittner Buam had to admit defeat in the top duel with Jesenice, the Yellow-Red celebrated an unchallenged victory over the EK Zeller Eisbären. The Salzburgers had to accept a 2:6 defeat at the end of the year after two victories recently. After an even opening period, the hosts ignited the turbo and went ahead 5:1 until the 50th minute. Steven Iacobellis was able to celebrate a brace only a few days after his hat trick against Kitzbühel.
