In recent days, Murray has been able to visit his teammates and staff, marking a gradual return to normal life following the dramatic events of March 10. “I’m continuing on the road to recovery, and both I and my doctors see my progress as positive and steady,” said the defenseman.

However, the cardiac arrest he suffered during the abandoned first quarterfinal game has significantly changed his daily life. On the day his teammates played Game 6 against Fehérvár AV19, Murray underwent surgery in which a cardioverter defibrillator was implanted in his upper body. This device is intended to prevent such a serious incident from happening again in the future.

A follow-up check-up at the hospital is scheduled in ten days. If he receives medical clearance, Murray and his partner Megan will then return to their home in Canada. His parents, who had traveled to Klagenfurt immediately after the medical emergency and also attended Game 3 in the Heidi Horten Arena, have already made their way back home.

“The doctors have told me that after the implantation of the device, I can live what you would call a normal life without any restrictions. Whether that also includes continuing to play professional hockey is a question I cannot and do not want to answer at this point,” the 33-year-old explained.

Murray is especially grateful for the wave of support over the past four weeks: “Our team doctors, Hannes Florianz and Günther Bachler, saved my life on the bench, and the medical care at the hospital afterward was outstanding. When I was brought out of the induced coma after a few days, I realized how great the public support was. That support helped me get to where I am today.”
