After two convincing wins, the Red Bull Hockey Juniors have leveled their “best-of-seven” quarterfinal series against HC Gherdeina. The decisive clash for a place in the semifinals will take place in Salzburg on Tuesday. It will be the seventh time in Alps Hockey League history that a series goes to Game 7. In previous showdowns, Salzburg have come up short twice.

The first four meetings between the Juniors and Gherdeina were all decided by just one goal—with the South Tyroleans coming out on top three times. In the past two games, however, the Salzburg side clearly dominated: the regular-season champions cruised to a 9–2 win at home before adding a convincing 6–2 victory on the road on Sunday. Forward Maximilian Wurzer scored twice in both encounters.

As a result, Salzburg will host the do-or-die Game 7 on Tuesday. It will be the Juniors’ third Game 7 appearance in their AHL history. On both previous occasions—2019’s quarterfinal against Lustenau and 2023’s semifinal against Cortina—they narrowly missed advancing.
