Release from 29.10.2022
In the Alps Hockey League, leaders HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice recorded their tenth win in a row on Saturday. The Red Bull Hockey Juniors were also successful and climbed to second place as both Hafro Cortina Hockey and EK Die Zeller Eisbären were defeated.
Jesenice remain the measure of things in the Alps Hockey League. The Slovenians beat Sterzing 5:1 at home on Saturday. The home side set the tone in the first period, but went into the first break goalless. After the restart, a brace by Lovro Kumanovic and Ozbej Rep set the course for victory, and Zan Jezovsek - the league's leading scorer - even made it 3:0 in the 34th minute. The visitors got their hopes up early in the third period after a goal by Joseph Mizzi, but in the end Jesenice won clearly.
Juniors climb to second place
The Red Bull Hockey Juniors are now in second place. The team from Salzburg won a real goal spectacle against EC Bregenzerwald with 6:4. After 40 minutes the home side was leading 5:2 and it seemed to be a clear affair. But in the last ten minutes of the game, things got really exciting. Finally, six different goal scorers cheered for the Red Bulls and 17-year-old Vadim Schreiner scored his first AHL goal.
Cortina and Zell am See lose
With Kitzbühel against Cortina, two in-form teams faced each other. The Tyroleans gained at least one point in their last six games, Cortina was unbeaten for eleven games. The Italians took the lead on Saturday after only two minutes through Giacomo Lacedelli and were also 3:1 ahead after the first period. Both teams were on the same level in the middle period, but this time only the home side scored - 3:3 after 40 minutes. After the restart Kitzbühel proved to be efficient, a brace by Henrik Hochfilzer and Rasmus Lahnaviik made it 5:3 and decided the game in favour of the Tyroleans.
Zell am See could not take advantage of the defeat. The Salzburgers lost 3:4 at Fassa. Hubert Berger put the Austrians in the lead with the only goal in the first period, but the hosts turned the game in their favour with three goals in the middle period. This lead lasted until the 57th minute, then events came to a head. After Zell pulled one back, Stephan Deluca scored an empty netter. With five seconds left the Austrians scored again, but it was not enough. Luigi Marchetti celebrated his first win as head coach of the Falcons on his home debut.
Unterland and Lustenau record second victory in a row
The Hockey Unterland Cavaliers won the first AHL duel with the Steel Wings Linz. The bottom team from Upper Austria took the lead in the first period, but the league newcomers turned the game in their favour in the middle period. The team from Neumarkt was the better side throughout the entire game and deserved to win 4:2 in the end. The South Tyroleans thus also maintained their fifth place in the table.
EHC Lustenau celebrated a clear 8:2 victory at home against HC Meran. David König gave the home side the lead after only 76 seconds. In the 33rd minute, they were already leading 6:1. New signing Ryan Hayes was named player of the evening for Lustenau. With four assists and one goal, he played a decisive role in the first full victory in front of the home crowd.
Ritten wins in Klagenfurt
The Rittner Buam SkyAlps returned to winning ways against the EC-KAC Future Team. After goals from Marco Insam, Markus Spinell and Philipp Pechlaner, the South Tyroleans were already 3:0 ahead after just 26 minutes. But Klagenfurt came back to within one goal in the middle period. In the last period, good scoring chances were rare and so it remained a 2:3 away win.
