The Red Bull Hockey Juniors extended their lead at the top of the Alps Hockey League standings on Thursday with a 4-1 road victory in Meran. Zell am See also continued its winning streak, while Cortina celebrated a comeback win against Asiago in the traditional duel. Additionally, both Sterzing and Unterland ended their losing streaks.
HC Meran/o Pircher – Red Bull Hockey Juniors 1:4 (1:0, 0:1, 0:3)
The Juniors secured their fourth consecutive win, defeating Meran 4-1 away thanks to a hat-trick by Eliseev. Nousiainen gave the hosts an early lead, but Eliseev equalized on the power play in the second period. Ten minutes before the end, Salzburg clinched the game with two quick goals, and Eliseev completed his hat-trick with an empty-netter in the final minute. The Juniors are now three points clear of Sisak, while Meran dropped to second from bottom.
EK Die Zeller Eisbären – Rittner Buam SkyAlps 4:2 (2:0, 1:2, 1:0)
Zell am See celebrated its fourth straight victory in front of more than 1,400 fans, winning 4-2 against Ritten. Tomazevic and Lahoda put Zell ahead early, while Ritten cut the deficit twice through Welychka (1:2) and Fink (2:3). However, Zauner's power play goal secured the 4-2 win. Despite Ritten's efforts, a comeback was denied.
S.G. Cortina Hafro – HC Migross Asiago 5:4 OT (1:1, 1:3, 2:0)
Cortina and Asiago delivered a thrilling back-and-forth encounter in their storied rivalry. The hosts took an early lead, but Asiago responded quickly and powered ahead in the second period. Despite trailing by two goals, Cortina reduced the gap late in the game and tied it with an extra attacker. Just 31 seconds into overtime, Sanna scored the game-winning goal, securing a 5-4 home victory.
HDD Jesenice – Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan 2:3 OT (0:0, 0:0, 2:2)
After eight straight losses, Sterzing returned to winning ways by triumphing over Jesenice in overtime. After a scoreless first two periods, the Slovenians took the lead in the third. Sterzing answered in the power play and then took the lead, but Jesenice equalized with an extra skater. Sproviero decided the game just 42 seconds into overtime, lifting Sterzing to ninth place.
Hockey Unterland Cavaliers – HC Gherdeina valgardena.it 5:4 OT (0:1, 1:2, 3:1)
Bottom side Unterland rejoiced after ending a five-game losing streak, winning 5-4 in overtime against Gardena in a dramatic clash. Despite trailing by two goals on two occasions, the Cavaliers turned the game around in the final period. Moroder forced overtime for Gardena with just one second left, but Galimberti scored the decisive goal after 61 minutes, securing the emotional win for Unterland.
