The Juniors controlled large stretches of the game but had to work hard for their first series win. After a scoreless opening period, the South Tyroleans struck first through Moncada, who scored from close range on the backhand right off a faceoff. Less than a minute later, the hosts responded when Juhola tied the game on the power play. Shortly after, the Juniors won the puck in the offensive zone and Wurzer buried a rebound to make it 2–1. Exactly 64 seconds after the equalizer, Kogler capped the stunning turnaround with an impressive solo effort for 3–1. That score held until the closing minutes, when Schiavone cut the deficit for Gardena in the 57th minute. The visitors piled on pressure late, but the Juniors held firm to protect their narrow lead and take a 1–0 advantage in the best-of-seven series. Game two goes Friday in Wolkenstein.
