EC-KAC and HCB Südtirol Alperia provided a thrilling evening of ice hockey in the pre-playoff opener. In the duel of last year's finalists, the guests took the lead in the seventh minute through Angelo Miceli, who picked up the puck behind Sebastian Dahm's goal and moved in front of the net. This narrow lead then lasted for a long time, also because HCB newcomer Andreas Bernard shone with several saves. It was not until the KAC sent a sixth skater on the ice for Dahm in the 59th minute that they managed to equalise by a Nick Petersen goal. And only 37 seconds later (at 59:25), the home side even turned the game around, Thomas Hundertpfund scored from the slot after a Haudum assist. Now HCB coach Ireland took his goalie off the ice and he was also rewarded, a Gazley shot landed in the net 13 seconds before the siren - it was thus the third goal within one minute. In overtime, Rok Tičar scored from close range to decide the game in favour of the reigning champions.

Znojmo defeats brave 99ers
The Moser Medical Graz99ers had to do without several important players for their pre-playoff opener at HC Tesla Orli Znojmo, who narrowly missed out on direct qualification for the quarterfinals on Sunday. The Czechs initially had more of the game and took the lead in the eleventh minute through Radek Prokes. But five seconds before the first break the Styrians equalised, with Simon Hjalmarsson scoring after a counterattack. Shortly after the restart, the home side went ahead again through a shot by Hrabal (22nd), but Mike Zalewski (25th) completed a beautiful combination to make it 2:2. Especially in the third period, Znojmo pressed for the next goal, but Graz defended strongly. So it went into overtime, in which the home side could not make use of a four-minute power play. The Czechs were again awarded a power play and now it was Filip Ahl who scored in the 70th minute for the home victory.

The KAC and Znojmo lead the "best-of-3" series 1:0, with the second games each taking place in Bolzano and Graz on Friday.
