KAC defeats Berlin in the CHL | Preseason wins for Fehérvár and Innsbruck

In their second game of the ongoing Champions Hockey League season, EC-KAC celebrated their first victory on Saturday. The Klagenfurt side defeated Eisbären Berlin 3-2 at home. Nick Petersen, Mathias From, and Luka Gomboc scored for the Red Jackets against the German champions.

HC TIWAG Innsbruck also won their second preseason matchup against Pioneers Vorarlberg. The Tyrolean team came out on top 5-4 in Feldkirch. In addition, Hydro Fehérvár AV19 recorded a clear 6-1 win over Cracovia. Meanwhile, HC Pustertal suffered a narrow 2-1 overtime loss on the road to the Nürnberg Ice Tigers after a hard-fought battle, while the Vienna Capitals were defeated 4-2 in their only home preseason test against HK Dukla Trencin.

After opening their Champions Hockey League campaign with a 4-1 defeat against Sparta Prague, EC-KAC secured their first success on Saturday. They beat Eisbären Berlin 3-2 in front of their home fans. Although the German champions took the lead late in the first period, the hosts turned the game around with two goals in the second frame from Nick Petersen and Mathias From (2-1). Berlin managed to equalize, but Luka Gomboc restored KAC’s lead with a beautiful power play goal in the 37th minute. The score remained unchanged until the final buzzer, sealing a well-deserved international victory for the Klagenfurt side.

HC TIWAG Innsbruck also won their second preseason duel against Pioneers Vorarlberg on Saturday. In a balanced game with many power plays and penalty kills, Benjamin Corbeil netted the decisive goal in the 54th minute, securing a 5-4 victory and another confidence boost for the Tyroleans.

Hydro Fehérvár AV19 is competing in a preseason tournament this weekend in Remetea, Romania. In their opening match, the Hungarian team cruised to a clear 6-1 win against Polish side KS Cracovia. On Sunday, they will face a Hungarian U25 selection in the final.

HC Pustertal was narrowly beaten 2-1 in overtime on the road by the Nürnberg Ice Tigers after an intense battle. The game remained scoreless for a long stretch, with both goaltenders—Pasquale for Pustertal and Fitzpatrick for Nürnberg—standing tall. In the third period, Nürnberg took the lead through Meireles on the power play, but Purdeller tied the game for Pustertal late on. In overtime, Gerard scored just 40 seconds in to secure the win for the German side.

The Vienna Capitals lost their only home preseason test against HK Dukla Trencin 4-2. The Slovak team scored three times on the power play (Leskinen, Hudec, and Josling) before the Capitals closed the gap with power play goals from Hults and Richter. Vienna pushed hard in the final period, but Ahl sealed the win for Trencin with a late goal.
