Release from 20.09.2024
The first round of the win2day ICE Hockey League season 2024/25 is over. The EC-KAC beat EC Red Bull Salzburg 4:3/SO in the rematch of the final. The KAC was still trailing 1:3 until four minutes before the end of the third period. The Moser Medical Graz99ers, HC TIWAG Innsbruck and Olimpija Ljubljana also celebrated narrow opening victories. HCB Südtirol Alperia and Hydro Fehérvár AV19, on the other hand, were clear winners.
In an exciting new edition of the final, EC-KAC narrowly won at home against EC Red Bull Salzburg by 4:3/SO. In front of 4079 spectators, it took until the 21st minute before new signing Mathis From put the KAC ahead. The Dane ended up being the player of the match. The 26-year-old also converted the decisive penalty in the shootout and scored 14 seconds before the end of regulation time to tie the game at 3:3. Despite trailing 0:1, Salzburg were able to pull away to 3:1 by the 53rd minute. A 2+2 minute penalty for high sticking for Ali Wukovits gave the KAC another chance with just under four minutes remaining and they promptly scored twice. First Jan Mursak scored to make it 2:3, before From equalized just before the end.
Newcomers shoot Graz to victory | Bolzano confident
In the clash between the spusu Vienna Capitals and Moser Medical Graz99ers, the visitors from Styria narrowly won 2:1. After a goalless first 20 minutes, Aljaz Predan put the home side ahead, but the 99ers equalized just before the end of the middle period thanks to new signing Paul Huber in the power play. Last season's bottom team finally turned the game around in the 52nd minute. Lukas Haudum, who moved to Graz from runner-up KAC, scored after an assist by Trevor Gooch.
In Bolzano, HCB Südtirol Alperia had no problems against Steinbach Black Wings Linz. Brad McClure was the only player to score twice in the 5:0 home win, the only shutout victory of the evening. New signings Braden Christoffer and Adam Helewka also scored, as did Cristiano Digiacinto.
Ljubljana win atmospheric Karawanken derby
In the Karawanken derby between Olimpija Ljubljana and EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV, the hosts narrowly retained the upper hand with a 3:2 victory. Nik Simsic was the player of the match in front of 3732 spectators at the Hala Tivoli. The Slovenian scored both the 1:0 and the 3:1 for Ljubljana. Ziga Pavlin also got on the scoresheet for OLL. For Villach, new signing Max Coatta scored to make it 1:1 at the interval, while Dylan MacPherson reduced the deficit to 2:3 at the start of the final period. The “Eagles” scored both goals in overtime.
The home team also narrowly prevailed in the western derby. HC TIWAG Innsbruck managed a 3:1 victory and thus the important win after a completely bad preseason, which ended without a win. New signing Mark Rassell scored twice against Pioneers Vorarlberg, who are back in action on Saturday when they host Fehérvár.
HC Pustertal and Hydro Fehérvár AV19 also faced each other in Bruneck. The visitors from Hungary at least managed a small revenge for their quarter-final defeat last season. Székesfehérvár prevailed 4:2. New signing Chase Berger and Anze Kuralt each scored twice. The Hungarians are back in action on Saturday, when they play at the Pioneers Vorarlberg at 19:30.
