win2day ICE Hockey League | 26.03.2024 | Semifinal 4:

Tue, 26.03.2024, 19:30: HC Pustertal - EC-KAC
Referees: NIKOLIC M., PIRAGIC, Bedynek, Nothegger. >> PULS 24 (available worldwide) <<
Score in the best-of-7 series: 0:3

As difficult as the EC-KAC found it in the quarterfinals against the BEMER Pioneers Vorarlberg, the Klagenfurt team now seems to be marching confidently in the semifinals against HC Pustertal. Klagenfurt lead the best-of-seven series 3:0 and are therefore just one win away from reaching their first final since winning the 2021 championship. However, the South Tyroleans have improved significantly over the course of the series. After losing 1:7 in the semi-final opener, they kept the game largely open in the last two encounters until the final period. In the third game, the Pusterians were able to equalize at times in the final period, but then faced the serenity of the EC-KAC. It seems that Klagenfurt can always go one better when they need to. Throughout the entire series, Klagenfurt have yet to fall behind. Klagenfurt have been in the lead for more than 161 of the 180 minutes played so far. When the score is tied - i.e. at the start of a match or after Pustertal has equalized - the KAC needs less than five minutes on average to take the lead. However, Pustertal is already very familiar with the situation of "elimination games". This is the fourth time this season that the South Tyroleans have had to play against the end of the season, but neither HK SZ Olimpija Ljubljana nor Hydro Fehérvár AV19 have been able to seal the Wolves' fate.

Standings in the "best-of-7" series: 1:2

EC Red Bull Salzburg celebrated a double comeback on Sunday: The Red Bulls managed to turn a three-goal deficit into a lead - for the third time in the Red Bulls' playoff history. In doing so, they not only turned around the third game of the best-of-seven series against HCB Südtirol Alperia, but also the series itself, in which they had previously trailed 0:1. Now the Foxes' comeback quality is in demand in front of their home crowd. The South Tyroleans proved in last year's final series that they can pull off a comeback when they forced a decisive seventh game after trailing 3:1 in the series. To date, the semi-final series - at least as far as the winners of the individual games are concerned - has been similar to last year's final series. However, the Foxes will now do everything they can in front of their home crowd to prevent the Red Bulls from pulling away with a 3:1 lead. To do so, the South Tyroleans must not allow themselves any phases of weakness, such as those seen in the middle third of the third semi-final game.
