Kai Suikkanen took over at the Dornbirn Bulldogs at the end of October 2019, when Jussi Tupamäki was released. The 60-year-old lost 0:4 at his debut on November 1st in Klagenfurt, he coached the Vorarlberg side in 39 games this season and celebrated 13 victories. He and his team failed to qualify for the playoffs – despite a good start into the Qualification Round.

"I don't want to stop here in Dornbirn with a season like this," Kai Suikkanen explains his motivation for the contract extension and adds: "We must and can be much better.” The 60-year-old has the potential to become the Bulldogs' next long-term coach, according to Dornbirn’s press release. "The ideas and goals for next year and the year after have been defined. Now we've got to start forming a team according to our ideas", Suikkanen says.
