The biggest successes of the Canadian were winning the Champions Hockey League and the Swedish championship. In addition, Genoway was named to the KHL All-Star team three times, won the bronze medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics with Team Canada and won the 2017 Spengler Cup with the national team.

The 35-year-old now wants to bring this cumulative experience to the Red Bulls. "When I heard about the Red Bulls' interest, I was immediately excited. I'm very familiar with the winning mentality and culture that is lived out at a team like Salzburg," Genoway explains.

Genoway was under contract with Swedish first division club Brynäs IF last season. He was already on the road in Sweden in 2018/19. At that time, the Canadian defended for Frölunda HC. With the team he not only won the SHL championship, but also the CHL. In Sweden, he scored 46 points (14 goals, 32 assists) in 102 regular season games during his two seasons. In 18 playoff duels, he scored 15 points (5 goals, 10 assists).

Genoway was active in the Russian KHL from 2014-2018 and from 2019-2021. He played for Dinamo Riga (2014/15), Spartak Moscow (2015/16), Jokerit Helsinki (2016/17), Lada Togliatti (2017/18), Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod (2019/20) and Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg (2020/21). In total, he scored 157 points (39 goals, 118 assists) in 343 regular-season KHL games. In addition, he made 13 playoff appearances with 3 points (1 goal, 2 assists).
