Kitzbühel first leaders of the new season

After a 5:1 home win over Gröden, Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel are the first leaders of the new Alps Hockey League season. The Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan and the EK Zeller Eisbären also picked up three points on the first matchday. HC Meran/o defeated champions Ritten after a comeback in overtime, while HDD Jesenice got the better of Bregenzerwald in a shootout.

Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel won against HC Gröden in the first round of the Alps Hockey League. The Tyroleans put their stamp on the game right from the start, checking well and forcing the visitors to make mistakes. Within 94 seconds, the home side pulled away to 3:0 with goals from Sebastian Labori (13th), Jayson Ren (14th) and Niklas Ketonen (14th). In the end, head coach Marco Pewal's team celebrated a clear 5:1 victory to take the lead in the table.

Celje got off to a perfect start in Sterzing. Jure Sotlar scored the first goal of the new season, Danil Tsarkovskyi increased the lead to 2:0 shortly afterwards - both goals were scored on power play. The game was characterised by penalties and the Broncos also scored in with a man advantage in the first period - De Lorenzo Meo made it 1:2. The South Tyroleans turned the game in their favour in the middle period, celebrating a clear 5:2 victory after a difficult start.

Zell am See and the Unterland Cavaliers played out a thrilling duel in which the home side took the lead through McLeod in the first period. In the middle frame the hosts addeda second but Pisetta reduced the deficit for the visitors. In the end, Philip Putnik - in his 300th game for the EKZ - decided the match.

After quickly falling behind, the Rittner Buam SkyAlps had everything under control until the 54th minute in their road game against Merano - at this point they were still leading 4:1. However, the home side managed a brilliant comeback and the game went into overtime. Ishida scored Meran's third powerplay goal to decide the game.

The former champions from Jesenice also struggled in their season opener against Bregenzerwald. The Slovenians took the lead twice, but the home side managed to equalise each time. The game was finally decided in a shootout, where Erik Svetina secured the extra point for the visitors.
