After a home defeat against league leaders Red Bull Hockey Juniors, Sterzing celebrated a win at EC-KAC Future Team. With five points, the Broncos are currently in third place in Qualification Round A, which would entitle them to participate in the pre-playoffs. Only one point behind - but with one more game played - is Kitzbühel in fourth place. Neo-head coach Joakim Andersson has started with two wins over Salzburg (after penalty shootout) and Klagenfurt (after overtime). The two teams have not yet faced each other this season, but the South Tyroleans have won ten of the previous twelve AHL duels. The Eagles have also never earned a victory in Sterzing.

Showdown for national championships
In Italy and Austria, there will also be a showdown for the national championships on Saturday. The 88th Italian championship will be decided in a direct duel between Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey and the Rittner Buam. In the final series of the Austrian AHL Championship, the title will be awarded in the second leg between defending champions EHC Lustenau and EC Bregenzerwald. The visitors go into the second duel with a 2:1 advantage.
