Kitzbühel wins goal-festival at Klagenfurt

EC „Die Adler“ Stadtwerke Kitzbühel celebrated on Wednesday a 6:4-win at EC-KAC II and defended place four in the Qualification Round B, Klagenfurt is now already without a chance to make the Play-offs. Podzins (2T/2A), Hochfilzer (1T/3A) and Echtler (4A) showed up with a 4-point-game.

In minute 2 KAC-defenseman Michael Kernberger threatened with a solo, but he could not beat Kitzbühel-Goalie Trelc. But just moments later Klagenfurt took the lead: Marco Richter scored from a short angel (2.). The Tyroleans stayed unimpressed and dominated most of the period. Some good chances, inter alia Ainārs Podziņš hit the post (9.), stayed unused, before the guests finally equalized in minute 14: Peter Lenes skated after a puck, passed the puck infront of the net, where Deivids Sarkanis scored with his own rebound. The guests continued to make pressure: A wrist-shot from Kevin Wirl was stopped by KAC-goalie Jakob Holzer (16.) and after a volley-shot from Marc Trummer the puck once again hit just the post (18.). In the last minute of the first period Niki Kraus failed to score from a good position, while on the other side Henrik Hochfilzer made the lead for the guests.
 
The second period started perfect for Kitzbühel, after just twelve seconds Ainārs Podziņš scored the 3:1 from a rebound. The Red Jackets answered quickly thanks a Power Play goal from Florian Kurath (22.). The Eagles stayed unimpressed and pressured for their fourth goal: A big wrist-shot hit for the third time just the post! After a fight between Ramón Schnetzer and Christoph Hörtnagl KEC scored after a 2-on-1-break: Mike Hummer finished a good diagonal-pass from Hochfilzer. The Carinthians did not give up and came back thanks two goals from Thomas Vallant, who scored from a wrap-around, and René Krumpl with-in 62 seconds. Klagenfurt then even had the chance to take the lead, but Kevin Schettina failed to score from a solo (32.).
 
In period 3 Klagenfurt had the better chances: Shorthanded Kreuzer outplayed the KEC-defense, but he could not beat goalie Trelc. Also Tip-in-chances from Philipp Waldner (49.) and Marco Richter (50.) stayed unused. The goals then were scored from the Eagles from Kitzbühel: Christoph Hörtnagl surprised goalie Holzer with a shot from the blue line for the 5:4. When Klagenfurt took full risk, Ainārs Podziņš fixed the final 6:4 for Kitzbühel into the open net.
