Kitzbühel wins thrilling derby

EC Die Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel started the year 2022 with a 7:4 home win in the derby against EK Die Zeller Eisbäre, with Raivo Freidenfelds showing a 5-point game (2G|3A). EC Bregenzerwald celebrated their first win after the Covid 19 related break with an unchallenged 4:1 at second-place Rittner Buam, while S.G. Cortina Hafro cheered a 5:3 comeback victory over Steel Wings Linz thanks to a 4-point night of Joseph Basaraba (2G|2A).

The game between HC Gherdeina valgardena.it and EHC Lustenau, originally also scheduled for Sunday, has been postponed due to medical precautions.

EC Die Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel has made a successful start into 2022, as the Tyrolean team won the derby against EK Die Zeller Eisbären 7:4 and thus also won the second season duel with their local rivals. Raivo Freidenfelds shown for the "Adler", which ended their five-game losing streak: With two goals and three assists, he showed his best game in terms of points this season and was able to continue his strong performances from the start of the season for the first time. However, the momentum in this game was not exclusively on the side of the home team – also the "Eisbären", which remained without a point in the seventh consecutive road win, fought, made up a three-goal deficit until the beginning of the third, before Kitzbühel, which had a perfect penalty killing (4/4) available, cleared it with three goals in the last 14 minutes. Zell am See was missing Neubauer, Dinhopel and Egger, defender Jesper Akerman was out during the game due to injury after a blocked shot.

Bregenzerwald with first win after Covid 19 forced break
EC Bregenzerwald celebrated its first win of the season in its second game after the Covid 19 break of about one month with a 4:1 at Rittner Buam, which was ECB’s first road win at Ritten in their sixth attempt. The second-placed South Tyrolean team, suffered their third defeat in a row. Thereby the "Buam", which recorded twice as many shots on goal (47:23), could equalize the early deficit (Schlögl; 2.) with 27 seconds left in the first through MacGregor Sharp. Afterwards, however, the "Wälder" proved to be much more efficient, pulling away to 3:1 within 89 seconds through Kai Hämmerle (24.) and Josef Kutzer (25.), while goalie Karlo Skec saved 46 in an outstanding night and the victory refined by Lehtonen by Empty-Netter.

Basaraba’s 4-point night gives Cortina comeback win
Joseph Basaraba gave S.G. Cortina Hafro a 5:3 comeback win over Steel Wings Linz. With two goals and two assists, the forward, was instrumental in Cortina’s fourth win in a row. However, the eighth-placed team struggled on the way to its 15th win of the season, trailing 0:2 after the first period. After a strong middle frame, the game was temporarily turned around in the 41st minute - before Linz equalized. But in the last six minutes, the Italians made a decisive push, scored two more and secured the victory.
