Bolzano inflicts first playoff defeat on Vienna
Regular Season winner HCB Südtirol Alperia narrowly edged out spusu Vienna Capitals to open the semifinal series and move to 1-0 in the best-of-seven quarterfinal series. While the Foxes celebrated their fifth straight playoff win, the spusu Vienna Capitals suffered their first loss in this postseason this season. For the fifth time in this encounter in the current season, only one goal made the difference. Vienna goalie Bernhard Starkbaum had gone 135 minutes without conceding a goal before this encounter. On Sunday, only a little more than a minute was added before the routinier had to admit defeat for the first time. Anton Bernard put the Foxes up 1-0 with his second playoff goal of the season, but the answer came in the person of Benjamin Nissner in the 25th minute. The 23-year-old scored his third goal of the current postseason. In the final period, Bolzano defender Denis Robertson was responsible for the decision, scoring the final goal to make it 2-1. Already on Tuesday, the Viennese have the chance to strike back in their home game.

KAC defens home advantage against Salzburg
The EC-KAC defended the home advantage at the start of the semifinal series against EC Red Bull Salzburg and celebrated the fourth playoff win in a row. Salzburg, on the other hand, had to admit defeat after four wins in a row and is trailing 0:1 in the "best-of-seven" semifinal series. The Klagenfurters thus remain unbeaten for a cross-season total of nine semifinal games. The last time the Klagenfur team suffered a defeat in a semifinal game was on March 17, 2017. In the KAC-RBS duel, the home team prevailed for the first time after three away victories recently. Especially for Salzburg goalie J.P. Lamoureux, the Klagenfurt Stadthalle remains a dangerous place. Since October 6, 2016, he did not record a win there as the starter of the respective away team. On Sunday, the MVP of the previous season traveled to Klagenfurt with a lot of self-confidence, as he ended the quarterfinal series against Dornbirn with two shutouts. On Sunday, however, the RBS goalie was forced to concede a goal after just 13 minutes. Matt Fraser, the top scorer in the ICE playoffs, registered his sixth goal of the postseason. Blaz Gregorc, who set up the first goal, went up 2-0 in the 22nd minute - Klagenfurt's second powerplay goal of the night. However, the Red Bulls showed character and equalized again with a brace within one minute as an immediate answer. David McIntyre and Jack Skille were responsible for this. However, the Klagenfurt team had the better end of the middle period again, restoring the two-goal lead through Nick Peterson and Johannes Bischofberger. The final period ended with no goals and the EC-KAC celebrated a 4:2 win in the first game of semi finals.
