On Sunday, EC-KAC and spusu Vienna Capitals have the chance to correct their defeats at the start of the "best-of-7" semifinal series in the win2day ICE Hockey League. While the Carinthians were clearly defeated by reigning champions EC Red Bull Salzburg, the Viennese were beaten by HCB Südtirol Alperia after overtime. EC Red Bull Salzburg defended its winning streak in playoff games also in the semifinal opener, as the defending champions defeated EC-KAC 5-1 and won their total of 17 playoff games in a row, never before has a team managed to do so. The "Red Bulls" were superior to the "Rotjacken" in many aspects and for most of the time in game one. Salzburg's outstanding power play was decisive, as the seven-time champions were able to end three of five PP occasions with a goal. In its five quarter-final games, Klagenfurt has only conceded one goal when shorthanded. For Salzburg, goalie Atte Tolvanen was once again outstanding, as the Finn allowed only one goal against in the last four games in a row, shining for the fourth time in a row with a save percentage of over 95.8%. Overall, the defending champions have been very strong defensively, conceding just 22 goals during their 17-game playoff winning streak. Salzburg has so far opened 22 playoff series with a win, and in 20 cases the "Red Bulls" went on to advance. In the 2012 quarterfinals and 2017 semifinals, the EC-KAC turned around its 0:1 series deficit against Salzburg on each occasion (both times 4:2). A 0:1 deficit in a "best-of-7" confrontation had the Klagenfurt side so far 13 times in its history, in almost half of these cases it nevertheless decided the series later in its favor. Bischofberger, Hochegger, Fraser and Koch will definitely be missing for the KAC - the first three mentioned will not return to the ice this season. Kele Steffler could make his comeback, Manuel Ganahl is questionable.

The spusu Vienna Capitals and HCB Südtirol Alperia played a duel on eye level at the start of the "best-of-7" semifinal series. Both teams were anxious to make as few mistakes as possible. The game was only decided after overtime, where the Foxes again had the better end for themselves. Dustin Gazley scored his second overtime game-winner in a row. With Mitch Hults (23G|38A) and Max Zimmer (34G|29A) both teams had to do without one of their top scorers. It is not yet clear whether comebacks will be made on Sunday. On both sides the goalies also stood out, both Bozen's Sam Harvey (96.2%) and Stefan Steen (93.1”) left a very sovereign impression.
