After their road win in Ljubljana on Tuesday, EC GRAND Immo VSV got off to a perfect start on home ice against HC TESLA Orli Znojmo: John Hughes scored after a rebound in the fourth minute for an early Villach lead. Less than a minute later, Scott Kosmachuk doubled from an acute angle, becoming the third player to reach the 20-goal mark for the season. Znojmo fought its way into the game on its strong power play, and a one-timer by Tor Immo (7./PP1) on the first PP occasion cut the deficit - but Travis Oleksuk still sent his team into the first intermission with a two-goal advantage.

After an intense but scoreless middle frame, Ryan Culkin's successful blueliner (45.) gave hope to the visitors from the Czech Republic. But just one minute later, Alexander Rauchenwald made it +2 again. Villach had everything under control from then on, Rick Schofield and John Hughes finally put the lid on it within 17 seconds in the 52nd minute.
