After already winning in overtime the previous evening in Salzburg, the Lakers got off to another good start on Saturday afternoon in St. Pölten. Maggie Peterson opened the scoring for the visitors in the 18th minute. Although the hosts tied it early in the second period on the power play, Kelsey Soccio restored the Lakers’ lead. In the third period she even extended it to 3–1, before the increasingly dominant Lower Austrians fought back. Meaghan Chittick (PP2) and Ashley Taciuk tied the game in a penalty-filled contest, forcing overtime. There, however, the visitors prevailed as Soccio completed her hat trick. With this win, the Carinthians moved up to third place in the AWHL table, while currently ranking seventh in the EWHL.

The European Women’s Hockey League also saw a clash between the bottom two teams. Tauron Metropolia Silesia came out on top in Graz, winning 4–2. After a goalless first period, the Polish side built a 2–0 lead. The 99ers cut the deficit, but the visitors pulled away to 4–1 by the 47th minute to seal the win early.

Aisulu Almaty lived up to its role as favorite in Salzburg, defeating the hosts 3–0 and winning every period. Goaltender Rachel Seeley earned a shutout for the league’s second-ranked team.
