Release from 10.10.2024
League leaders Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel shrugged off their recent loss to former bottom team Celje and returned to winning ways with a commanding victory over the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan. With Thursday’s 3-0 win, the "Adler" managed to restore their lead over their two closest chasers, Rittner Buam and Red Bull Hockey Juniors.
While the “Buam” were not in action on Thursday, the Red Bull Hockey Juniors suffered a 0-3 loss in the Salzburg derby against EK Zeller Eisbären. The "Eisbären" bounced back in impressive fashion after their heavy defeat to KHL Sisak, closing the gap to the top five teams to just one point.
Sisak’s surge continues
KHL Sisak’s impressive surge also continued against last season’s finalist S.G. Cortina Hafro. After a narrow opening loss to Jesenice, the league newcomers have been recording only decisive wins: after a 7-1 against Gherdeina and a 10-2 against Zell, they claimed an 8-4 road victory over Cortina. Vlastimil Dostalek netted a hat trick in the process. With their third consecutive dominant win, Sisak moved up to fourth place in the standings, despite having played at least two fewer games than the top three teams.
Derby wins for Meran and Celje
In the South Tyrol derby, HC Meran/o Pircher earned a 3-2 overtime victory over HC Gherdeina valgardena, climbing into the top five. The hosts from Meran jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, but Gherdeina responded with two goals in the second period, forcing the game into overtime. Patrick Tomasini sealed the win in the final minute of overtime.
In the Slovenian derby, HK RST Pellet Celje secured a 6-2 home win over HDD Jesenice. The hosts from Celje were far more efficient than Jesenice from the start, building a 5-0 lead by the 44th minute. Jesenice tried to rally with two quick goals but couldn’t threaten their local rivals any further.
