Release from 09.12.2017
Alps Hockey League leader Rittner Buam kept their persecutors at a distance with a 5:0 home win against Sterzing. There was lots of excitement in the remaining five games on Saturday. Zell am See and EC-KAC II celebrated come-from-behind victories, it also was the first season win for the Klagenfurt side. In the matches with most goals scored Asiago, Bregenzerwald and Pustertal held the upper hand.
HC Neumarkt Riwega - EC KAC II 2:4 (2:0, 0:3, 0:1)
The match between HC Neumarkt and Klagenfurt-II was played in Trent. The Wild Goose had to give up the injured Tobias Brighenti and Hannes Oberrauch while David Galassiti and Alex Gasser were at the Under 20 World Cup D.I.-G.B. with the Italian national team. The starting goalkeeper was Samuel Donini while his back-up was Kristian Budinsky. Also in Klagenfurt II there were several absences: Thimo Nickl, Simon Hammerle, Jakob Holzer, Daniel Obersteiner, Dennis Sticha and Kele Steffler are engaged in the Under 20 World Cup with the Austrian national team. Florian Kurath and Philipp Kreuzer were also absent. The start of the game was definitely in favor of the South Tyrolean formation that took the lead after 101 seconds of play with a shot from close range of Kamil Brenanec. Then there was a penalty for part but the result didn’t change. When six seconds were left to the first break there was the doubling of the Neumarkt: Florian Wieser was fast to put the puck in the wide open net after the Austrian goalkeeper has lost contact with him. The italian team went to the first break on the double advantage even if the Klagenfurt-II has grown in the final of the first period. In the second half the music changed completely. The Wild Geese got stuck as they started making a lot of mistakes. So the opponent returned to the game. Valentin Hammerle scored the first goal for KAC-II during an action in powerplay after a rebound. Then the youngest team continued to play while the Neumarkt literally lost the compass. The energy of the "Red Jackets" come out in the final minutes of the central period. First Moritz Greier scored the equalizer with a diagonal shot at the end of a counter-attack (36.). Then still Valentin Hammerle, after two minutes, led the Carinthians ahead with a deflection in front of the the net. During the third time Budinsky was the goalkeeper of Neumarkt instead of Donini. The Klagenfurt-II started the third time in the lead for 3:2 as they defended itself very well from the return of the Neumarkt that was certainly not in a great evening. The Austrians understood that was the right time: Martin Kern concluded a fast action in the the net after a puck lost at the center of the rink by the opponents. The reaction of the Neumarkt there wasn’t and the Klagenfurt-II will remember this match for a long time because it was the first victory of the seeason since the beginning of the AHL in September. A nice evening for young Austrians. The Neumakrt, for now, was the team that has granted more points to the Carinthians: 4 of the 5 points earned in the standings of the Klagenfurt-II were against the Wild Geese.
EC 'Die Adler' Stadtwerke Kitzbühel - Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey 4:6 (1:3, 3:2, 0:1)
Asiago had the better of the play early in the game. Soon after Enrico Miglioranzi missed the first chance from sharp angle, the visitors took the lead. After eight minutes Michele Stevan got the puck behind the KEC net and surprised goalie Jose Kangaskorte with the backhand. Asiago generated and as a result Giulio Scandella doubled the lead with a shot into the short corner. Lukas Bär got Kitzbühel on the scoreboard with a powerplay goal but just two minutes later Scandella restored the two-goal lead off a great pass from Anthony Nigro. Things were overturning in the middle frame with Kitzbühel scored three goals in about three minutes: Olegs Sislannikovs, Fabian Nußbaumer and Filip Orsagh turned it around for a 4:3 home lead. A few moments later the Tirolese pressed for another goal with a two men advantage but they only came close to score. After goalie Kangaskorte received a 2+2 penalty, Asiago bounced back with two power play goals by Marco Rosa and Anthony Bardaro for a 5:4 guest's lead. In the third both played more solid defensively with Kizbühel trying to force overtime in a final push. However, they could not even score during a 6 on 4 play. At the other end Michael Sullivan made the game safe with an empty netter for a 6:4 road win.
EHC Alge Elastic Lustenau - EC Bregenzerwald 2:5 (0:1, 0:2, 2:2)
Both teams were carfully in the opening minutes with Lustenau becoming dangerous on the first power play. Despite creating some chances the puck did not want to cross the goal line. Bregenzerwald did better when Juuso Mörsky took advantage of a defense mistake for the guest's lead. Now the game picked up pace and both sides generated with no side litting the lamp in the first again. After the restart Lustenau took over command but the failed in front of the ECB net. After the midway point of the game the visitors used another defensive mistake from Lustenau to double the lead by Philipp Pöschmann. Before the second intermission Bregenzerwald captain Christian Ban even added a third. In the third the hosts tried everything to come back but the received too many penalties. Just when playing shorthanded Yan Stastny amde the breakthrough on a breakaway. With three minutes to go Lustenau coach Malgin took full risk and pulled is goalie but Mörsky scored into the empty net. With Jeff Ulmer's first EHC goal, Lustenau reduced the deficit once again but Pöschmann rounded off the scoring with anohter empty netter for a 5:2 Bregenzerwald derby win.
EK Zeller Eisbären - HC Fassa Falcons 3:2 (0:1, 0:1, 3:0)
The teams started the game offensively-minded with both being at eye level for most periods. Late in the first the fans in Zell am See saw the first goal with Paolo Bustreo taking advantage of a mistake in the EKZ defense for the visitor's lead. In the middle frame the hosts played more aggressive and had more puck possession. Despite Zell am See pressing for the equalizer, it was once again Bustreo who found the back of the net. With a hard slap shot the Fassa forward doubled the lead for a 0:2 score after 40 minutes. Early in the third Christoph Herzog pulled one back for the polar bears and now they kept rolling. After 46 minutes Martin Oraze tied the game with a precise shot and tension was back on the ice. Zell am See was the dominant team and with four minutes to go captain Max Wilfan turned it around on power play. He scored off passes from Oraze and Dinhopel for a 3:2 home win.
HC Pustertal Wolves - FBI VEU Feldkirch 4:3 OT (0:2, 3:0, 0:1, 0:0, 1:0)
In the roster of home team, Daniel Erlacher and David Laner were absent for injury while Maximilian Leitner and Simon Berger were with the Italian National Team Under 20. In the first part of the game there was certainly more Bruneck but his actions were lost against the Australian defense. The home team also hit a post in the middle. In the second part of the time, there was more Feldkirch and in particular around 14 minutes when in 24 seconds the visitors made two goals with Diethard Winzing (medium range shot) and Sven Grasbock (shot from the blue line). In the last minutes there was the reaction of Pustertal but the first half was of the guests (2: 0). In the second period, Bruneck played with intensity as they came back in to the game. After "killing" a 3 vs 5, the Wolves halved the disadvantage with a diagonal shot of Lukas Tauber from the slot (23.). Then in the middle of the game there was a draw from Patrick Bona with a shot from distance. Shortly thereafter Bruneck went ahead after a spectacular dive by Max Oberrauch in an action in which three forwards from three different lines played together. Val Pusteria closed the second half with a complete comeback of three goals. In the third time the Val Pusteria didn’t score the other goal while the guests equalized with Kristof Reinthaler just in the middle. After overtime without goals, Brunico won the match for 4:3 on shutout thanks to the decisive one by Nate Di Casmirro. The Feldkirch, despite the defeat, maintained the fourth position in the stadings with a point of advantage on the team of the Wolves.
Rittner Buam - WSV Sterzing Broncos Weihenstephan 5:0 (2:0, 1:0, 2:0)
For the home team were absent Andreas Alber and Max Ploner and Philipp Pechlaner and Kevin Fink (both in italian team Under 20). In addition, goalie Patrick Killeen, forward Dan Tudin and defender Andreas Lutz, who were absent in the last match against Fassa, have returned. On the other side of the rink, Daniel Erlacher, Denny Deanesi and Giffen Nyren were absent. The derby started slowly and in the first five minutes it didn’t happen much. Then the game grew minutes after minutes. The both tema started to create the first chances for the goal. Then the concreteness of the Rittner Buam was more evidence after eight minutes when Dan Tudin deflected a puck in the net near the slot for the first goal of home team. Two minutes later, right in the middle of the first half, there was a doubling with a majestic descent on the counterattack and in shorthanded by Oscar Ahlströhm. The forward scored with a missile under the crossbar. The reaction of the Vipiteno there was but it didn’t bring much because the Ritten defended itself well but above all the Broncos weren’t in great evening. During the second half was still the home team to score after 72 seconds of play with Victor Ahlströhm in powerplay at the end of a scrum in the slot (3:0). At this point the Sterzing couldn’t organized his game while the leader of AHL controlled without problems the game. In the begin of the third time, in just 171 seconds, Ritten closed the 101th derby against the Broncos thanks to the goals of Markus Spinell and again Dan Tudin. For Vipiteno it was a bad night and the game run to the end without other emotions. The Ritten remained at the top of the standings with five points ahead of Asiago. Patrick Killen has earned his 2th shutout of the season. For Sterzing was the fifth defeat in the last six games but they keept the 7th position.
