Release from 30.12.2022
On Friday, the leading duo HC TIWAG Innsbruck and HCB Südtirol Alperia scored five goals each and celebrated clear victories. While EC Red Bull Salzburg narrowly prevailed in head coach Matt McIlvane's 200th game and improved to third place, one goal was enough for Steinbach Black Wings Linz to win in Klagenfurt. The spusu Vienna Capitals celebrated their first season victory over Féhérvar and HC Pustertal climbed into the top-10.
HC TIWAG Innsbruck lived up to its role as favorite in the last game of the year and also won the third season comparison with BEMER Pioneers Vorarlberg. A brace from Jamal Watson - the defender already scored twice against Pustertal on Wednesday - gave the home side a 2:0 lead after the first period. In the middle period, the Tyroleans managed the preliminary decision with two more goals. While the victory was no longer in danger, the Sharks only narrowly missed their first shutout of the season, four minutes before the end goalie Rene Swette was beaten by Luka Maver on a Pioneers power play. The 5:1 was the fifth home win in a row for the league leaders, who go into the new year with a five-point lead over Bolzano.
HCB Südtirol Alperia fell behind in Villach, but managed to turn the game in its favor within four minutes. Kevin Moderer equalized in his 700th league game to 2:2, with this result it also went into the first break. Brad McClure put the visitors back in front in the 24th minute, and HCB never relinquished it. The VSV missed six players and could not beat back, in the final phase the Bolzano team scored two more goals and celebrated the first win of the season over the Carinthians.
Salzburg gets late win
EC Red Bull Salzburg returned to third place with a home win over Ljubljana. In head coach Matt McIlvane's 200th league game, the reigning champions took a 2:0 lead, but the improving Slovenians evened the score in the final period. But returnee Paul Huber scored in the 57th minute to make it 3:2, giving the Red Bulls their second win in eight days against Olimpija.
One goal is enough for Linz
The Steinbach Black Wings won their third duel of the season against EC-KAC. One goal was enough for the visitors, with Shawn St-Amant scoring the golden goal in the 50th minute. With his first shutout, Rasmus Tirronen also led the visitors - who gained some breathing room in the fight for the top-6 - to victory. For the ninth time this season, just one goal scored decided a match.
Caps win for the first time
After Féhérvar won the first three duels of the season with the spusu Vienna Capitals by one goal difference, the Viennese kept the upper hand on Friday. Matt Bradley gave the guests the lead already in the fourth minute on power play, Sascha Bauer increased early in the second period. The Viennese were the team that set the tone, but failed to decide the game early. Four minutes before the end, the home side had some hope after a Sarauer goal, but two empty-net goals ensured a 1:4 away victory.
Pustertal climbs into the top 10
In the Italian ice hockey classic between Pustertal and Asiago, the fans had to wait until the 26th minute for the first goal when Nick Plastino put the home side in front. Asiago showed top form also in the ninth game within 18 days. The visitors were rewarded for their efforts in the third period with the equalizer by Allan McShane - who scored for the third straight game. The game went into overtime, where Dan Catenacci provided the deciding goal after just 32 seconds. With the first win of the season over Asiago, Pustertal climbed into the top-10.
