The Medical Meeting serves as a central platform for professional dialogue and the sharing of best practices. A key focus was the analysis of the 2025/26 season’s injury reports, including an in-depth review of the most common injury patterns, current statistics, and preventive measures, also in an international context.

Significant attention was also given to the management of on-ice emergencies, including a review of standard protocols and practical sessions on first response procedures. These included “Rescue on Ice” drills as well as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training. The program also addressed medical emergencies in spectator areas.

Another focal point was the regulation on neck guards, including an evaluation of how the rules are being applied, potential sanctions, and the overall effectiveness of the measure. The meeting concluded with a discussion on revising the Medical Protocol, assessing the current status, identifying necessary adjustments, and outlining possible next steps.

League physician Dr. Christiane Loinig-Velik: “The annual meeting is extremely important. Through this exchange, we can continuously improve the medical side of the game. Our goal is always to further enhance player safety, establish clear medical standards, and ensure that player health remains the top priority.”

Dr. Christian Thuile, team physician of HCB Südtirol Alperia: “This meeting helps us stay up to date at all times. Ultimately, it directly benefits the players, who can rely on increasingly high standards in prevention, safety, and medical care.”
