With Leon Sommer, the Steinbach Black Wings Linz fill the third and last spot between their posts with a talent from Linz's junior team. After the Finnish newcomer from Fehervar and the extension of the experienced Austrian veteran, the team of goalie coach Jürgen Penker has now been completed with a young talent.

At 20 years of age, Leon Sommer is considered one of the greatest talents for the red-white-red future in goal. Born in Linz, Sommer went through all the junior teams. After many years with the Junior Wings, the young goalie earned a permanent spot in the Alps Hockey League with the Steel Wings in the last two years. After 13 appearances in each of the 19 & 20 seasons, the next step in his development followed last season. With 22 games in the regular season and a strong save percentage of 91 percent, Sommer played a major role in the Steel Wings' first-ever participation in the Alps Hockey League Pre-Playoffs.

In addition, the young goalie already has two participations in the U20 World Championship of the top division to his credit. Last April, he was even invited to a training course with the senior national team.

Leon Sommer: "Ever since I first stood on the ice at the age of three, it has been my dream to become a professional ice hockey player. The fact that it's now happening in my hometown is incredible. I'm looking forward to the upcoming season and will try to soak up as much as I can and continue to develop."
