The Alps Hockey League turns 10 this year. How has the level of play evolved since its early days?
Lorenzo Casetti: “The last three years we haven’t been part of the league, so it’s hard to say. But in the first six seasons when we were in, the level was really high, especially in the first couple of years. Aside from a few teams, the competition was very strong, and every game was a real battle.”

Which players have had the biggest impact on the league over the past nine seasons?
Lorenzo Casetti: “Thinking about our team, I’d probably say Giulio Scandella or Giordano Finoro. Giordano joined late in the season and scored the championship-winning goal, which was huge for him and for us. Giulio, on the other hand, was a very solid player. Not only on the ice, but also as a leader in the locker room.”

What has been your personal highlight in the Alps Hockey League so far?
Lorenzo Casetti: “Probably the year we won the championship against Jesenice. Our starting goalie got injured in game three of the finals, so our backup, who had basically come out of retirement to help us, had to step in. We managed to win game three, then had a must-win game four in Jesenice, and finally came back home for game five and won the title. That was an incredible feeling for all of us, especially for our backup goalie.”

Which rivalries make the league special, and what are your season highlights?
Lorenzo Casetti: “For Asiago, the biggest rivalries have always been with Brunico and Renon. With Renon, we basically split the championships—most of the time it was either them or us. With Brunico it was similar: they were always close but couldn’t quite get over the line. That’s unfortunate for them, but I think their time will come because they deserve it.”

With what expectations are you heading into the anniversary season?
Lorenzo Casetti: “As a veteran, my mindset is always the same: aiming to win the championship. We have two trophies to fight for—the Italian league and the Alps league. It won’t be easy, but every season starts with the goal of lifting the cup at the end.”

Who will be the anniversary champion, and which underdog might surprise?
Lorenzo Casetti: “As for underdogs, I’d say us. We’re a very young team, but we have talent. We just need to grow, learn how to play and win as a team—and also how to lose as a team, because that’s part of the process. Looking at opponents, I think Jesenice will be really strong again, as always. Vipiteno as well. There are a lot of teams that could be there at the end fighting for the cup.”

Facing Renon in the opener, what will be key for a strong start to the anniversary season?
Lorenzo Casetti: “As I said, with Renon we’ve been splitting championships for years. Playing up there is always special—they have a great crowd and it’s an emotional atmosphere. I know a lot of the guys on their team, so it’s always fun. I can’t wait to get started again. It will be a tough challenge, but also a lot of fun.”
