At just 19 years old, Luca Haitzmann has already established himself as the starting goaltender for the Red Bull Hockey Juniors while also getting the opportunity to practice with the first team of EC Red Bull Salzburg. For the Zell am See native, things are moving quickly in the right direction. In the interview, Haitzmann talks about the trust and responsibility he has been given at such a young age, the strong chemistry within this year’s team and his personal goals for the upcoming season.

At just 19 years old, you’re already the starting goaltender for the Red Bull Hockey Juniors and also have the opportunity to practice with the first team. What does it mean to you to be given so much trust and responsibility at such a young age?
Luca Haitzmann: “I’m very thankful for the opportunity. It’s a lot of fun to play with the guys. We have a great team and they help me a lot, which makes it easier for me to play my game.”

Your team often enters the season as a dangerous underdog. What do you think this group is capable of achieving this year?
“We have a great group this year. We have great leaders on the team and there’s also great chemistry in the locker room. I think we have the potential to do something great this season.”

What are your personal goals for the upcoming season?
“My personal goal is to play like I did last season, be consistent in every game and help the team win games.”
