The long waiting ist over when Lustenau meets Zell am See in the first AHL game of the 2017-18 campaign. Compared the last season, it will be a different situation for some players as the switched sides. Netminder Patrick Machreich, who played for some year sin Lustenau, returned to his home club in Zell am See. The polar bears also signed Petr Vala, who scored lots of goals for EHC in the last championship. On the other hand Jürgen Tschernutter and goalie Lukas Schluderbacher transferred into the other direction. The lions of Vorarlberg also had a big signing with former NHL and KHL player Yan Stastny. Lustenau won three of four preseason games but Zell am See had a good run, too. After wins over Kitzbühel and Neumarkt, they also beat Jesenice 3:1. The fans of Alps Hockey League can look forward to this opener where EHC captain Max Wilfan will face his brother Max.
