Born in Bloomington, Minnesota, Brian Connelly spent his entire education and also his first years as a professional in his home country. In 2014, the now 34-year-old moved to Europe to join Leksands IF in Sweden. Just one year later the defender signed a contract with the EC Red Bull Salzburg in the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga and promptly became champion. In the following three seasons Connelly was active for the Dornbirn Bulldogs. Last season he defended for the Nottingham Panthers in the Elite Ice Hockey League. In 46 games, the Assistant Captain scored 24 points.

Connelly has now signed a two-year contract with EHC Lustenau. "I'm very pleased that the signing of Conelly has worked out. He will certainly take a game-determining position in our defence. His qualities as an offensive defender are also well known," Herbert Oberscheider, president of EHC Lustenau said.
