The Playoff field of the 2020/21 Alps Hockey League season is complete. On Tuesday, the EHC Lustenau, the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan and the HC Gherdeina valgardena.it also prevailed in game two of the "best-of-3" Pre-Playoff series to complete the quarterfinals. While the EHC and GHE clearly won, WSV had to fight for a long time. Against the favored Red Bull Hockey Juniors, the Broncos prevailed in the end with 3:2 after overtime, after they were already trailing with 0:2 in the meantime.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, the Playoff pick will take place. In this, the top three teams of the Regular Season can choose their opponent for the quarterfinals. Immediately after the pick, all quarterfinal pairings will be communicated on our homepage and on Facebook.

Lustenau is qualified for the Playoffs
The EHC Lustenau became the sixth team to qualify for the Alps Hockey League Playoffs. The team from Vorarlberg won the second game of the Pre-Playoffs against the Rittner Buam clearly with 6:2. In game one, the EHC even kept the upper hand with 7:2. Man of the match in Tuesday's win was Chris D'Alvise with a hat trick. For the 35-years-old Canadian it was the third hat trick of the season. In total, the center has scored 23 goals this season so far. However, the scoring was opened by Max Wilfan (11.). The 30-yeasr-old native of Carinthia was also the player who made the final score shortly before the end of the game. Right at the start of the second period, Renars Karkls increased the lead to 2:0 in a PP2 situation before Chris D'Alvise increased to 3:0 in minute 25. However, the guests from South Tyrol did not give up and could still reduce the score to 2:3 in the second period. In the final period the game was very even. It took until the 57th minute of play before Chris D'Alvise scored a power play goal to finally decide the game in Lustenau's favor. This is the third quarterfinal qualification in the Alps Hockey League for the Vorarlberg team after 2017 and 2019.



Sterzing wins despite two-goal deficit

The Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan are in the quarterfinals of the Alps Hockey League for the second time after 2018. The South Tyroleans also surprisingly prevailed in the second game against the favored Red Bull Hockey Juniors. The guests from Salzburg, who were defeated with 3:4 in game one, got off to a much better start. After the first period, they already led with 2:0. This lead lasted until the 36th minute of the game, before the hosts were able to equalize the game in the last minutes of the second period. In the final period, RBJ clearly dominated the game. However, they did not manage to score the decisive goal. Right at the beginning of the second endless overtime of this year's Pre-Playoffs, Julian Lutz conceded a penalty on the visitors' side, which the Broncos promptly took advantage of. Markus Gander scored the game winner after two minutes and 29 seconds. For Sterzing it was already the fifth win in a row over the Red Bull Hockey Juniors.



Val Gardena completes quarterfinals

As the eighth and last team, the HC Gherdeina valgardena.it qualified for the quarterfinals of the season 2020/21. Against the VEU Feldkirch, the South Tyroleans also prevailed with 2:0 in the "best-of-3" series. Brad McGowan opened the scoring in favor of the home side (10.). In the 33rd minute of the game the guests managed to equalize, but only a short time later Val Gardena was able to pull ahead to 3:1. Although Feldkirch was able to reduce the score to 2:3 right at the beginning of the final period, VEU was not able to score any more goals. On the contrary, GHE scored two more shorthanders and won the second game. Saturday's opener also ended with 5:2 for the Furie, who qualified for the quarterfinals of the Alps Hockey League for the very first time. VEU missed a playoff spot for the second time in a row.
