Before Marc Habscheid became a head coach, he played outstanding seasons in the NHL: The 59-year-old was under contract from 1982 to 1996 with top teams such as the Edmonton Oilers, the Minnesota North Stars, the Detroit Red Wings and the Calgary Flames. There he played alongside hockey stars Wayne Gretzky, Jarri Kurri, Marc Messier, Paul Coffey, Grent Fuhr, Steve Yzerman and Don Jackson. At the end of his playing career he was also engaged in Europe, playing SC Bern and EV Zug in the National League A in Switzerland and the Augsburg Panthers in the DEL.

As a coach he won the World Championship title with Canada back in 2004 and worked primarily in the development of young hockey talent. The former Boston Bruins assistant coach is "an absolute stroke of luck" for the Pioneers Vorarlberg and brings "exactly the qualities they were looking for in Feldkirch." Habscheid most recently coached the Prince Albert Raiders in the Western Hockey League.
