The Alps Hockey League turns 10 this year. How has the level of play evolved since its early days?
Marco Sanna: “Over time, the level has always been quite similar. From the beginning, some teams left, others joined, but overall the level has stayed the same.”

Which players have had the biggest impact on the league over the past nine seasons?
Marco Sanna: “It’s hard to pick just a few, because over the years many players have made a huge impact. One that stands out is Stefano Giliati from Asiago – he was really tough to play against. And of course, Ethan Szypula, who had a 100-point season recently, was outstanding.”

Which rivalries make the league special, and what are your season highlights?
Marco Sanna: “In the Alps League, there are a lot of derbies, and those are definitely the best games to play. I especially remember the games we played against Brunico a few years ago – they were unbelievable. Also the derbies against Vipiteno are always intense. Those are the best ones.”

With what expectations are you heading into the anniversary season?
Marco Sanna: “This year, like always, our goal is to reach the playoffs and then try to go all the way.”

Who will be the anniversary champion, and which underdog might surprise?
Marco Sanna: “It’s tough to pick just one team. I think there are 5–6 teams that can really battle for the championship, just like in the past few years. For the underdog, I think Merano has built a very strong team this year. They brought in some really good players, and they will be tough to face.”

You already mentioned Merano. You will face them in the opener. What will be key for a strong start to the anniversary season?
Marco Sanna: “The first game is always tough, because you’re not yet in full rhythm. The key factors will be conditioning and, above all, being mentally ready right from the start.”

All games of the new Alps Hockey League season will be streamed live on www.valcome.tv. To watch all the games of your team during the Regular Season and the Master/Qualification Round, there is a special Team Pass available for only €99.
