Meran/o takes revenge in Final rematch to open new season

The Alps Hockey League kicked off its 2026/27 season on Saturday, with HC Meran/o Pircher taking revenge for last season’s Final defeat. The South Tyroleans beat defending champions HC Gherdeina valgardena.it 4-2. Rittner Buam SkyAlps, HC Migross Asiago, KHL Sisak and Hockey Unterland Cavaliers also opened their campaigns with victories.

Meran/o wins Final rematch
HC Meran/o Pircher took revenge for last season’s Final defeat in their opening game of the new campaign. After being swept 4-0 in the Final series, Meran/o started the new season with a 4-2 home win over defending champions HC Gherdeina valgardena.it. Levin was the key player for the hosts. With his team trailing 2-1, he took over the game and completed a hat trick to turn the contest around. Levin scored three consecutive goals between the 35th and 45th minutes to secure the victory for Meran/o.

Road wins for Ritten and Asiago
Rittner Buam SkyAlps opened their season with a 5-2 road win against Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel. The South Tyroleans created more chances in the opening period and took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission. Shortly after the restart, Miceli made it 3-0. Kitzbühel finally got on the board with a power-play goal from Podlipnik in the third period. After Ritten restored their three-goal advantage, the Eagles cut the deficit to 4-2 with just over three minutes remaining, but Capanelli sealed the 5-2 victory shortly afterwards.

HC Migross Asiago also started the new season with a convincing road victory, beating EK Die Zeller Eisbären 5-1. The Italian side proved much more efficient than the hosts, despite Zell holding a clear 39-19 advantage in shots on goal. Asiago nevertheless led 2-0 after the opening period and continued to extend its advantage. Porco was particularly impressive, completing a hat trick as Asiago claimed all three points.

Home wins for Sisak and Cavaliers
KHL Sisak opened its season with a 3-2 win over HD Jesenice. The Slovenian visitors got off to the better start, with Svetina opening the scoring on the power play. Sisak turned the game around in the second period through goals from Lesnicar and Brus. Tabak extended the lead to 3-1 early in the third period. Sabolcic pulled one back for Jesenice on the power play with less than nine minutes remaining, but Sisak held on for the win.

Hockey Unterland Cavaliers started the new season with a 4-1 home win over Red Bull Hockey Juniors. The South Tyroleans built a comfortable 3-0 lead by the 37th minute thanks to goals from Linjala, Heino and Engelaar. Lanzinger got the Juniors on the board in the third period, but they were unable to mount a comeback. Vaccarino made it 4-1 with just over six minutes remaining to seal the victory.
