Hydro Fehérvár AV19 also suffered a defeat in the second game of the Champions Hockey League. But after the clear defeat 1:7 against Zurich on Thursday, they were only a few minutes short of victory against CHL defending champion Rögle Ängelholm on Saturday. Fehérvár challenged the team from the SHL over the entire encounter and held strong especially in defense. After a goalless first period, Patrick Newell gave the Hungarians the lead - their first lead in the Champions Hockey League. Rögle pressed for the equalizer, Fehérvár did not let anything happen until the 52nd minute. Then, however, it went fast, the defending champions turned the deficit into a 2-1 victory within five minutes and inflicted Fehérvár's second defeat. The return match in Sweden will follow as early as September 8.

After EC Red Bull Salzburg's overtime win in the CHL opener against the Stavanger Oils, Salzburg suffered a loss against Ilves Tampere. However, Salzburg took the lead in the final seconds of the first period through Ali Wukovits. After a goalless middle period, the Red Bulls suddenly found themselves trailing in the final period after a double strike by Ilves. Almost with the end of the regular playing time Benjamin Nissner shot his team into the overtime. There, Atte Tolvanen finally had to reach behind him for a third time.

Black Wings and Caps meet after defeats in BMW Cup third-place game

Both the Steinbach Black Wings Linz and the spusu Vienna Capitals were defeated in their semi-final matches of the BMW Cup in Nuremberg. The Upper Austrians lost 1:4 to the Czech extra league team HC Energie Karlovy Vary. The Linzers initially fell behind in the eleventh minute, but promptly answered in the person of Michael Haga. The Linzers gave Karlovy Vary a hard fight until the end of the second period and kept the score at 1-1, but the Czechs came out of the dressing room better and went ahead moments after the start of the final period. While the Linzers were unable to add to their tally, Karlovy Vary scored two more times and finished the game 4-1.

The spusu Vienna Capitals also lost their semifinal match at the BMW Cup 2022, suffering a 0:4 defeat against host Nürnberg Ice Tigers. After a goalless first period, in which the Caps were the more dangerous team, the opponent from the DEL struck in the middle period. For a long time, Caps goalie Bernhard Starkbaum can prevent the Viennese, who were outnumbered for long stretches, from falling behind, but in the end he had to make his first grab behind in the 25th minute when they were outnumbered. Shortly before the second intermission, the DEL team increased to 2:0 . The Caps comeback is nipped in the bud shortly after the start of the final third with the 3:0 - the encounter eventually ended 4:0 for the hosts. The spusu Vienna Capitals will meet league rival Steinbach Black Wings Linz in the 3rd place match on Sunday at 14:00.
