EC Red Bull Salzburg narrowly lost their CHL away game against Ilves Tampere in an intense encounter. The Red Bulls struggled at the start to adapt to the Finns’ high tempo but soon found their rhythm. After the home team took the lead in the 29th minute, newcomer Devante Stephens responded in the 36th minute with a long-range shot to equalize. Following Ilves’ second goal in the 50th minute, Salzburg were unable to fight back. With a bit more luck, a point could have been possible. In two days, on September 6, the Red Bulls will travel to face Finnish champions KalPa Kuopio in their next away game.

EC-KAC also suffered a narrow away defeat. At Swedish runners-up Brynäs IF, the KAC lost 2-4. They were only trailing 2-3 until 65 seconds before the final buzzer, after Mathias From had reduced the deficit in the 54th minute. Earlier, Thomas Hundertpfund had equalized the first goal of the game with a shorthanded strike in the 14th minute. In the end, it was still the KAC’s second loss of the current campaign. The Carinthians will next play on Saturday in Denmark against the Odense Bulldogs.

Preseason win for Ljubljana
Olimpija Ljubljana was also in action on Thursday. The Slovenians hosted DEL2 side Starbulls Rosenheim in a preseason game and secured a 3-0 victory. Zach Boychuk scored twice, and Žiga Pance added a goal to complete the win for Olimpija.
