A new multifunctional event and sports arena is being built in the Hungarian ICE city of Székesfehérvár as part of a far-reaching modernization project. At the beginning of November, provisional arrangements were first made and the necessary demolition and excavation work started. The construction of this complex will also unite two previously unconnected parts of the city. When completed, it is expected to seat 6,000 spectators for hockey games. Other events can accommodate up to 8,250 people.

Last Friday, the project, subsidized by the government to the tune of nearly 45 billion forints, was inspected in detail for the first time by a small group of interested people. "The construction of this arena is a very important investment in the life of this city. The people here deserve this arena. It will primarily be the home of our hockey team, but will also host cultural events and conferences," says Tamás Vargha, state secretary and member of the Hungarian parliament.

Tight schedule
The construction is scheduled to be completed in December 2023, two years from now. Viewed from above, the external dimensions of the new Alba Arena are 120x120 meters. By next June, the entire area is to be prepared accordingly and the floor slab concreted. The reinforced concrete frame construction is then to be completed before the end of the same year. A total of 20,000 cubic meters of concrete and 2,000 tons of steel will be required for the construction project. The final roof structure to be installed will cover 14,000 square meters.

Unique in Hungary
The architecture of the new arena reveals a nationwide unique feature: both the ice rink and the main grandstand will be below entrance level, offering fans a unique experience acoustically as well. The ice surface will remain in place year-round and will be thermally covered during other events.

Milestone for the entire Hungarian hockey
Péter Pál Gál, president of Hydro Fehérvár AV19, described the construction of the new Alba Arena as a major milestone that will be of immense importance not only for the club but for the entire Hungarian hockey: "We hope that in the future we will be able to give back all the work done by the city, the government and everyone involved by building a team showing great hockey. We will work to fill this hall with life and success."

Viktor Szélig, general manager of the currently third-ranked side, is also looking forward to the new home: "It's a pleasure to see the first construction progress. We have been waiting for this for a very, very long time and it is a huge success for our club. I hope that in two years we will have a new arena here, adapted to the times, and we will be able to welcome our guests and friends from the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League. I'm also looking forward to show this arena to our loyal fans – and I'm sure they will bring the goosebump atmosphere from the old arena."
