According to the Arbitrator and having considered the video evidence and ruling of the EBEL PSC, player Nico Feldner (#74) of EC Red Bull Salzburg, will receive supplementary discipline under rule 113 – Check From Behind.
On November 16th, in Linz, an incident occurred involving Salzburg player #74 Nico Feldner which is deemed a Check From Behind. With the opponent skating to the boards to play a lose puck, Nico Feldner made a check deemed recklessly endangering from behind. As the video shows, the play began, when Nico Feldner is located above the goal line. Approximately at the goal Nico Feldner engages in the check by firstly raising his stick back and up (which is an indicator of creating force and no regard for the puck). As Nico Feldner approached the opponent, he began to separate his left arm (which is the contact point and main force). The left arm is located in the mid back rib area of opponent. With the force delivered primarily through the use of the arm, the opposing player is propelled into the boards, unable to protect himself and in a manner where the opponents head makes contact with the glass in an excessive manner. The check by Nico Feldner is considered a check from behind. Considering the contact is from the back side of the opponents #'s and Nico Feldner had time and distance to see the opponents back #'s, he had the option of minimizing, altering or diminishing the contact. The opposing player was in the process of playing the puck and unable to defend or protect himself.
Effective immediately, Nico Feldner (#74) is suspended for 2 games.
Key references:
- Check From Behind
- Did not alter or work to minimize backside contact
- Category 2 - 'Reckless'
- Not a repeat offender
From the perspective of DOPS and according to the EBEL Penalty Catalog Ref Nr. 113 - Check From Behind, Nico Feldner (#74) of EC Red Bull Salzburg is suspended for 2 games, effective immediately and fined 200.00 Euros.

According to the Arbitrator and having considered the video evidence and ruling of the EBEL PSC, player Michael Davies(#19) of EH LIWEST Black Wings Linz, will receive supplementary discipline under rule 119 – Boarding.
On November 16th, in Linz, an incident occurred involving Linz player #19 Michael Davies which is deemed boarding. It is felt that Michael Davies, through his actions in causing an apparent injury to the opposing player, did not do it for the purpose or intent of causing an injury. However, in all cases, with or without intent, a player is considered responsible for his actions at all times.
Boarding is defined as 'a player who body checks, elbows, charges, or trips an opponent in such a manner that causes the opponent to be thrown violently into the boards'. Due to the action of Michael Davies causing the opposing player to go violently into the boards, the incident has been raised to supplementary discipline under Boarding, as defined above. As the video shows, off the face-off Michael Davies immediately starts skating in the direction of the puck and opposing player. It is proven that Michael Davies had no regard for the puck and chose to make a play on the opposing player, making him responsible for the actions of the opposing player being propelled into the boards in a violent manner.
Considering the opposing player is a short distance from the boards and in an attempt to make a play on the puck, he is left vulnerable with little to no way to protect himself. It is a combination of a trip caused by the right skate of Michael Davies and right arm on high backside of the opposing player with a small push.
Key references:
- Opposing player propelled violently into boards
- Injures and recklessly endangers the opponent
- Deemed a category 1 - Careless
- Not a repeat offender
Effective immediately, Michael Davies is suspended for 1 game.
