Niklas Bretschneider stays in Linz until 2025

The Steinbach Black Wings Linz announced the contract extension with Niklas Bretschneider for two more years. The 23-year-old Viennese made the next step in his development in his third season in Upper Austria. With four goals and six assists in 41 games, the forward is currently playing his best season in terms of points in the win2day ICE Hockey League.

Niklas Bretschneider has been part of the Steinbach Black Wings squad since the 2020/21 season. Before moving to Upper Austria, the native of Vienna enjoyed his education in North America with the Northern Cyclones. In four years, the winger collected 131 points (45 goals) in 142 appearances.

In this campaign, Bretschneider convinced with his speed in shorthanded situations as well as with his move in front of the goal and therefore got his chances in the Austrian national team in the fall. At the Black Wings, he played his way into the first forward formation in the meantime and thus gained valuable experience in a scoring line. Now the 23-year-old extended his contract in Linz ahead of schedule until 2025.

"I feel very comfortable in Linz and am happy to stay here for the next two years. The team is great and we are on a very good path. Playing in front of these fans is incredibly fun, and together we still have a lot of plans. I'm very happy with my progress over the last few years and am eager to take the next steps with the Black Wings," said Bretschneider.
