Following an 'EBEL official complaint' from EHC LIWEST Black Wings Linz to review an incident involving the player Marco Insam #8 of HCB Südtirol Alperia, in QF 4 on Sunday, March 5th 2017 time 13:48, a case was opened and sent to the PSC. According to the EHC LIWEST Black Wings Linz report and video evidence supplied, Marco Insam made a play which is, in the opinion of Linz, a check to the head occured.  The incident was sent to PSC and a conclusive decision is made. By the game officials, there was no penalty assessed on the play.

On Monday, March 06th, 2017 an EBEL official complaint was sent to the the EBEL league office as per the EBEL Fundamental Rules.  In reference; the situation occurred Sunday, March 5th in a game played in Bozen, involving Bozen player #8, Marco Insam.  Through the EBEL official complaint, Linz stated that Marco Insam made a check on the opposing player deemed as checking to the head or neck area. A case was opened and sent to the EBEL PSC for review.

The EBEL PSC reported, unanimously, that no suspension is required. From the perspective of the EBEL Hockey Operations and as the video shows, a Bozen player shoots the puck in a direction out of his defending zone.  The play transitioned into a quick turnover with the opposing player intercepting the puck. The play quickly became a broken play, when the opposing player while attempting to gain possession of the puck, quickly loses possession of the puck.  After losing possession of the puck, the opposing player instantly turns to his left and begins to stop, altering his body position approximately 90* immediately before contact.  Although PSC agreed there was some head contact, it was deemed the head contact was caused primarily by the opposing player altering his body position immediately before contact.  The contact to the opposing players head is considered incidental and was not avoidable by Insam.  It was also determined that Marco Insam, while delivering a body check, did not elevate, did keep his left arm tucked, is not deemed excessive and was not targeting the head.  The hit is deemed legal and not deemed as a check to the head.

From the perspective of PSC, it is conclusive that the body check by Marco Insam is not worthy of a suspension.  The Marco Insam case is deemed conclusive, with no suspension and no fine. This means Marco Insam is allowed to play in QF 5 on Tuesday at Linz.
