The Erste Bank Eishockey Liga-clubs – Fehervar AV19, EC Red Bull Salzburg and HC Orli Znojmo – lost their friendly games on Tuesday.
Fehervar AV19 lost its first game against HK Poprad in the Visegrad Cup. The Slovaks that played already their sixth game in the preseason, went with a 2-2 result into the locker room after the first period, with Daniel Koger scoring two powerplay goals for Fehervar. In the second period the home team got better and better and scored two more goals against Fehervar that played its first game this season. Both teams got many chances to practice powerplay and penalty kill throughout the whole game. In the third period, Kocsis scored his team’s third goal giving the chance to Fehervar to push harder and tie up the game. At the end, Benoit Laporte pulled goalie Miklos Rajna but the Hungarians couldn’t score and the game ended in a loss for Fehervar. The next game will be against Nové Zámky, another Slovakian team on 22 August.
Znojmo opened Zubr Cup with a loss
HC Orli Znojmo lost to Czech Extraliga outfit PSG Zlin 2:5 in their opening game of ZUBR Cup. Pohl and Yellow Horn scored the goals for the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga-team. Zlin, Czech champions in 2014, opened the scoring after 14 minutes thanks to Michal Popelka. Jan Pohl equalized for Znojmo 40 seconds later with a deflection. Zlin pulled forward thanks to Antonin Honejsek shortly after the start of second period. Tomas Fort converted a powerplay in the 25th minute to make it 3:1, but Colton Yellow Horn pulled one back with a quick shot minute later. Zizka made it 4:2 for Zlin with a shot that bounced in off the goal post. Despite many chances, Zlin put a seal on the game in the final minute with an empty net goal.
Red Bulls finished their PreSeason without a win
EC Red Bull Salzburg lost their third and last friendly game before start of the Champions Hockey League next week. The Mozart Citizens were defeated at home by German Vice-Champion Grizzly Wolfsburg 2:4. The Austrians, who missed with Herburger, Hughes, Latusa, Trattnig some key-players, were the chief on the ice, but missed to many chances. In a Powerplay Mario Huber scored the lead for Salzburg from a rebound (16.). While for example Heinrich shorthanded and moments later Harris failed to add goals from break-aways (30.), the Germans scored in the final seconds of a Powerplay (26.), seconds before the second break and late in the third perid. The Red Bulls never gave up, but the 2:3 from Layne Viveiros came to late. The Red Bulls pushed forward until the end, but got the 2:4 in the final minute oft he game into the empty net then.
