With five defeats in a row and a total of only eleven wins from 36 games, HK SZ Olimpija is only in twelfth place in the win2day ICE Hockey League table. Due to the recent poor performances, Head Coach Mitja Šivic was forced to resign, as he announced in a statement: "The fact is that we tried different things to improve in one way or another. In the end, I came to the conclusion that my resignation as head coach is the best way for the team to achieve better results at the moment. I would like to thank the president of the club, Miha Butara, for the opportunity, for his patience and for the encouragement I received until the end. I would like to thank the club for giving me the opportunity to work at this level, because a lot of what we did together was really good. I also want to thank all my colleagues at the club, without whom this work would not have been possible."

Last season, the 43-year-old led the Slovenians to the quarterfinals. In this, they lost to EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV in the seventh and decisive game. In addition to the departure of Šivic, Olimpija also announced the transfer of defenseman Carl Neill to the PENNY DEL. The Canadian played 36 times for Ljubljana and scored 24 points.
