One game suspenion for Alexander Rauchenwald

Alexander Rauchenwald (#9) of EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV, time 10:00 was involved in an incident deemed as Cross-Checking (IIHF Rule 59). The video evidence was sent to the win2day ICE Hockey League PSC, which determined the incident to be worthy of supplementary discipline - Category 1 - 'Careless'.

Sunday night in Villach, Villach center #9 Alexander Rauchenwald was involved in an incident deemed as Cross-Checking on Klagenfurt D'man #10 Thomas Vallant resulting in a 5-minute major penalty plus game-misconduct being assessed.

As the video shows, Rauchenwald dumps the puck into the attacking zone, Vallant skates in direct path to make a defensive play. Vallant approaches Rauchenwald in a normal, nonthreatening skating manner to assume an area to take away ice, by positioning himself into Rauchenwald's skating lane. As a result Rauchenwald raises his stick with 2 hands and delivers a blow that hits Vallant in the head area. This is cross-checking.

It is important to note that this is not a stick directed towards the body that rides up the opponent. This cross check is delivered cleanly to the head area of Vallant. As a defensive/protection type reaction, it can be assumed Rauchenwald did not intend to strike Vallant in this manner. But players are responsible for their sticks at all times. This is deemed a careless cross check delivered to the head area, that strikes an opponent at a dangerous height, with the force necessary to warrant supplementary discipline.

The ICE Hockey League Department of Player Safety has suspended Alexander Rauchenwald for 1 game and fined 200.00 euros.
