One game suspension for Kilian Rappold

Kilian Rappold (#20) of Steel Wings Linz, time 55:38, made contact with an opponent deemed as Interference, IIHF Rule 42. Based on the video evidence, it is determined the incident to be worthy of
supplementary discipline - Category 1 – ‘Careless’ – insufficient attention or thought to avoid harm or error. Liable to happen as a consequence of, by intending to affect an opponent through a reactionary or accidental motion or the incident is deemed careless causing negligence.

Wednesday night, November 1st, in Ritten, Linz Forward #20 Kilian Rappold was involved in an incident, deemed as Interference on Ritten Forward #91 Kevin Fink, resulting in a 5-minute major penalty plus game-misconduct being assessed.

As the video shows, Ritten is in possession of the puck in their D'Zone. Fink, who is located at the blue line and skating into the zone, receives a pass from his teammate. Immediately after receiving the puck he forwards it to the neutral zone using his back-hand. As Fink is looking at the puck he played, Rappold is coming from Fink's off-side, delivering a hit on an unsuspecting player no longer in possession of the puck.

This is interference.

It is important to note, if Rappold wants to make a hit on this play, he has to ensure to deliver this it as long as his opponent is in possession of the puck. It is acknowledged Rappold altered his skating path slightly but not significant enough to avoid contact on an unsuspecting opponent. Rappold had the time and space to react on Finks play to avoid contact in total.

Effective immediately, the Alps Hockey League Department of Player Safety has suspended Kilian Rappold
for 1 game.
