Maximilian Sölva (#88) of Hockey Unterland Cavaliers, time 50:39, made contact with an opponent deemed as kneeing, IIHF Rule 50. Based on the video evidence, it is determined the incident to be worthy of supplementary discipline - Category 1 – ‘Careless’ – insufficient attention or thought to avoid harm or error. Liable to happen as a consequence of, by intending to affect an opponent through a reactionary or accidental motion or the incident is deemed careless causing negligence.

Thursday night, in Lustenau, Unterland forward #88 Maximilian Sölva was involved in an incident deemed as kneeing on Lustenau center #73 Niclas Lucenius, resulting in an apparent and reported injury.

As the video shows, Lustenau player #73, Niclas Lucenius is in possession of the puck skating through the neutral zone into the attacking zone, when HC Unterland player #88, Maximilian Sölva is skating cross the ice and attempts to make a body check on him. Short after entering the attacking zone Lucenius is stopping and playing a pass to his teammate. Sölva reacting to the stoppage is turning to the right side to finish his check, leading with the right knee making direct leg on leg contact.

This is kneeing

With Sölva reacting, it is conceivable that a body check can and will occur. However, either a regard to play the puck or making a legal body to body check is required. In the incident, Sölva prepares to make a check by leading with his right leg. The right leg of Sölva is the primary contact point, leading to a direct leg on leg contact and secondly to upper-body contact. If Sölva wants to make a legal body check in this situation he has to ensure that no leg to leg contact will occur.

Effective immediately, Maximilian Sölva (#88) of Hockey Unterland Cavaliers is suspended for 1 game.

To summarize:
