Champion Aisulu opens the season on Friday
The new season starts with the defending champion: Aisulu Almaty hosts HK PSRZ Bratislava on Friday in the European Women’s Hockey League opener. The Kazakh side suffered a 3-6 defeat against Berlin in the Eurocup last weekend, once again struggling out of the gate just as they did last season. Bratislava also aims to bounce back after losing to the Sabres St. Pölten in Eurocup action, but they will look to build on last year’s strong campaign, which saw them reach the EWHL semifinals.

Saturday: Five games, premiere on Sporteurope.TV
On Saturday, the win2day Austrian Women’s Hockey League teams enter the stage. Two all-Austrian matchups are on the schedule, with points counting towards both the AWHL and the EWHL standings. The spotlight will be on the clash between the Lakers Kärnten and the Sabres St. Pölten, which will be broadcast live and free on Sporteurope.TV for the very first time. The Sabres, winners of the inaugural AWHL title, travel to Kärnten to face last year’s third-place finishers. Meanwhile, the Salzburg Eagles host league newcomers Villach Lady Hawks, who already gained AWHL experience in last season’s qualification round and even managed to defeat the Eagles once. Internationally, Saturday also promises excitement: the Budapest derby between Budapest Jegkorong Akademia and MAC Budapest, HK PSRZ Bratislava hosting the KSV Highlanders from Styria, and the EC Graz Huskies taking on the EVB Eagles.

Sunday: Aisulu back in action
The champion not only kicks off the season but also closes the opening weekend. On Sunday, Aisulu Almaty welcomes the EVB Eagles, who begin their campaign with a road trip and will already be playing their second game of the young season.
