The final of the win2day ICE Hockey League kicked off in front of a sold-out crowd: 4,406 fans attended the first clash of the "best-of-7" final series between EC-KAC and EC Red Bull Salzburg in the Heidi Horten Arena. The defending champions fielded their entire line-up, while Klagenfurt had to do without captain Thomas Hundertpfund (upper body injury). Both teams were very structured right from the start, playing a physical game and focusing on defense. Then the chances increased, especially for the KAC: Clemens Unterweger with a good opportunity and Lukas Haudum only hit the bar while short-handed.

As the second period progressed, the "Rotjacken" increasingly gained an advantage. Haudum had another good opportunity with a net drive before Salzburg became very compelling in its second power play but Sebastian Dahm was on the spot. The second period also ended goalless. The third frame continued with a lot of physical play. Klagenfurt then had a five-minute powerplay 11.5 minutes before the end. But Salzburg produced a perfect penalty kill and had their chances: Mario Huber was denied by Dahm, Florian Baltram skated alone towards the KAC goalkeeper, as Postma successfully stopped the breakaway late on. Shortly before the end, Ganahl had a wrap-around chance that Atte Tolvanen thwarted.

The EC-KAC got off to a good start in the final period and had several scoring opportunities. However, Salzburg then scored: Philipp Sinn found Paul Huber in the slot and he successfully finished into the far corner.
