Pioneers celebrate first season win against Fehérvár

The Pioneers Vorarlberg celebrated their first win of the season on Saturday. The team from Feldkirch beat Hydro Fehérvár AV19 4:3 at home.

While Fehérvár started the new season with a win in Bruneck on Friday, the Pioneers were beaten in Innsbruck. The team from Vorarlberg got off to the better start on Saturday and had more of the play in the first period. The home side took the lead in the ninth minute through Brady Gilmour from close range. The Hungarians got stronger in the middle period, with captain János Hári (25) equalising in the powerplay. Lundegard put the Vorarlberg team back in front 25 seconds before the end of the second, but Stipsicz equalised again two seconds before the siren - 2:2. 23 seconds after the restart, the home side went ahead again through Friend. A game misconduct against Ivan Korecky gave Fehérvár the momentum back and Messner equalised in the powerplay. David Keefer then decided the game when he scored from close range in the 51st minute to make it 4:3. The score remained that way until the final buzzer.
